Edinburgh June 2018

When I first got to Scotland I relaxed for a few days, seeing old friends and revisiting favorite neighborhoods. I was staying in Marchmont. I never lived in Marchmont but lived near there in Merchiston and Morningside. I like all of these neighborhoods on the south side of Edinburgh.

I started my Edinburgh stay by meandering north across the meadows, visiting the University, then walking through the Old Town, down The Mound, and into the New Town.

The Meadows:

George Square at the University:

The new School of Informatics building:
My friend Richard Shillcock in his office:

Teviot Student Union. Not fancy, but I liked the lunches there.

Wandering through Forrest Hill, through the Old Town, and down The Mound:

And meandering down through the New Town to Stockbridge:

Stopping along the way at Kay's Bar, a pub that's served the excellent real ales for many, many years.  Caledonian was my favourite IPA for when I lived there. I was happy to see they still serve it. It was the best pint I'd had in a long time.

The next day meandered through Morningside where I lived for a few years. It's always been a nice little neighborhood. Took the bus there from George Square. Here's the view from the top deck of the double-decker bus:
Morningside:

Morningside has always had nice little shops, like this cheese shop:

The flat Kate and I lived on Jordan Lane. The top-right one of the building. Not a fancy building, but our flat was nice and cozy.
